Wright Around Town – A Public Art Project

Presented by the Glencoe Historical Society, WRIGHT AROUND TOWN was a public art project celebrating the treasured architecture and the individuals who created Ravine Bluffs more than 100 years ago as well as the planning and people who continue to make Glencoe such a special community today.

Highlights of the Project

  • Wright Around Town was modeled after other successful community art projects such as Chicago’s famous Cows on Parade.
  • Noted fabricator Chicago Fiberglass Works created 3′ x 5′ x 5′ replicas of the Wright-designed street markers that delineate the boundaries of Ravine Bluffs.
  • Fifteen organizations, businesses and community leaders sponsored artists to convert each marker into a unique work of art.
  • The Wright Around Town Kickoff on June 5, 2015 was a community celebration unveiling all of the designs for review by residents, visitors and media.
  • After the Kickoff, the Village distributed the markers to designated locations around town where they were displayed throughout the summer of 2015.
  • The completed markers were auctioned to the highest bidder at the Ravine Bluffs Centennial Gala on October 3, 2015.
